Way back in the year 1896, Prof. D. K. Karve started a school, especially for women, at village Hingne near Pune City. This school was started just with four widow students. Later Way back in the year 1896, Prof. D. K. Karve started a school, especially for women, on, a good number of women came forward to get education at this school. In the year 1907. the school was named as "Mahilashram High School".
Today, in Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS), Pune, this school runs classes from 5th Std to 10+2 level and number of girls studying in this school is around 3500 (MKSSS), Pune, this school runs As per the policy of the Institution, while admitting students, girls coming from rural areas and coming from poor sections of society are given preference. The school is affiliated to "Secondary and Higher Secondary Board of Examinations of Maharashtra State. It provides excellent educational environment and a fair number of students from this school have achieved ranks in the Board examinations.
The school provides excellent facilities like spacious class rooms, with e-learning facility, rich library, well equipped labs and good play-ground, Recording rooms Apart from imparting knowledge and skills, the school gives emphasis on confidence building, as well.
Since, a substantial number of girls coming from rural areas are admitted to this school, the Institution has made arrangements for their stay in hostels. The Mahilashram Hostel Complex provides staying facility to these girls.
The school has a separate blind unit for 9th & 10th Std. About 35-40 students take admission.
The Arts, Science and Commerce wing at +2 stage is supplemented by vocational and bifocal wings we have started IT Course for science faculty Here, students are trained in accounts writing, medical lab technology, electronics and computers.
